Boxing at motor city casino

Things have been rough there the last few years, with them having a tough time keeping the place full of events. Its a massive neo-gothic/art deco masterpiece that screams “no expense spared” by the terms of the 1930s. There’s several ballrooms/theaters for use, but the one we were in was the Masonic Theater, a >4000 seat venue located in the heart of the building.

In Detroit, where the world’s largest is standing? Things are a bit different. In most cities, the Masonic Hall is a small venue similar to a nightclub setting – maybe you can fit a 1,000 people in it if it is particularly large, but not much beyond that. The venue was more of an attraction to me than were the bouts on the card: Detroit’s Masonic Hall. And so, here I was with a ticket for a fight that no longer existed, but a boxing card that did. Perhaps I should have – but big league boxing doesn’t come to Michigan that often these days, and it might be months or years before it comes back. When Devon Alexander injured his arm, Ticketmaster let me know that I could potentially get a refund. Sometimes, we end up doing things not because we truly want to do them, but because of strange emotional bonds.
